Default Crack in Maytag tub! My Options?
Brand: Maytag
Model Number: MDBTT79AWB
Age: 5 - 10 years

Hi,

New to the forum, hopefully someone has a quality answer for me.
We have a Maytag Mod#MDBTT79AWB dishwasher. the tub has produced a small crack in it, approx an 1"long and it's leaking everywhere. It ruined our dens cieling and a 5'section of our dens wall....I had to tear scetions out of both due to water damage.
This washers not even 5yrs. old and has been nothing but problems since we bought it...as far as maytag Dishwashers are concerned...I am not impressed at all.
I've looked for a replacement tub here and elsewhere on line and have found nothing.
I guess I have 3 options.
1) new dishwasher...any recommendations?
2) find a replacement tub
3) seal the crack with a caulk or possibly plastic weld.

As for the caulk or sealer....Does anyone have any suggestions as to what might holdup?

I contacted Maytag, but have not heard back from them and I really don't expect to. I am not all to impressed with their customer service either.
Thanx in advance for your help.

Tom

Default Warranty

If you have the documentation there is a good chance that your dryer tub is under warranty. Most of the older units had a lifetime or twenty year warranty on the tub.
Even if you do not have the documents I would go after them.
The odds are pretty good you will get a new dishwasher or a great deal since this will cost them less than having a tech install a new tub.

While you are at it get a floor mat for your washer. They make them specifically for dishwashers. Better the water runs onto your kitchen floor where you will see it. Than into walls and ceilings where it is invisible till damage is done.

Thanx Denman,

I have all the documents for the washer. I still haven't heard from Maytag, but it is the weekend...
In the meantime...I tried melting a similiar plastic while heating the crack area and letting the two flow together...it sealed most of the crack, but I still had a slight drip....so I used a high quality automotive sealant on it. The tub crackes where the right rear corner mounts to the frame. Whether or not I may have ruined the warranty or not on the tub by trying different repairs only time will tell.
I'll run it thru a cycle tomorrow and with a little luck it'll last either until Maytag comes thru or I save enough to buy a new one.

I do know this....stainless steel tub for me next time.

We were out when it ran thru it's 2hr cycle....figures...thats just my luck. I'll look into the mat...never seen that before.

I will let everyone know here how Maytag handles this

Thanx Tom
