Default Control Panel "Lock On" Blinking Light
Brand: Kenmore
Model Number: 665.16819990
Age: 5 - 10 years

Dishwasher has been working flawlessly...until now. Machine finished normal cycles (wash and dry) and all was fine. However, now the "Lock On" light continually BLINKS when the door is closed. [The light is not on steady, but is blinking] I have attempted to get the Lock On blinking light to stop by following the manual instructions: "To turn off the Lock, press and hold NO HEAT DRY for 4 seconds. The light turns off." However the light continues to blink. With it blinking, all buttons are disabled, thus I can not select any cycle, or even select "Start" or "Cancel". When the door is UNlocked, the blinking Lock On light goes out; however, when the door is closed and locked again, it starts blinking. It appears that the control panel selections are out of sequence, or that there should be some button combination to reset the control panel to the "normal" or default settings. As it is, there is no response from any controls. Does anyone have any suggestions.

The key pad may be faulty or the ribbon cable that goes to the electronic control may be loose.

Open the panel and check the connection.

Here is a link to the parts of your dishwasher model 665.16819990.

I am having the same problem and have an appointment for repair from Sears on the 9th of Oct. Did you find the cause or fix for this?

Default Control Panel "Lock On" Blinking Light

I have not found a permament solution yet. I turned the circuit breaker (C/B) off to the dishwasher for a day and before resetting it was ready to immediately select a wash cycle and push start. When I reset the C/B and the blinking light did not come on so I immediately made the selects and the machine started and worked normally. I left it do its thing while I did some work and when I came back the dishwasher had finished and the blinking light was back on...BUT the dishes were fully washed and dried. Again I could do nothing with the controls. I turned the C/B off again and am waiting to reset it. I have called Sears and was told there had been a service bulletin or recall on the control panel but to date have not pursued that course. I'm sure that approach will be a "$200 Fix". I'd be interested in what the Sears repair person does to correct your situation. From what I can find, the Lock Out should not be "blinking" if it comes on normally. Normally if it comes on it would be steady.

Question Same Problem with Lock On Button

Hello, I own a Kenmore Ultra Wash Dishwasher model 665. The Lock On light continues to flash red. I reviewed the manual following the instructions of the NO HEAT DRY 'lock button' to hold for 4 seconds to Unlock but this has not worked. The Lock On Light continues to flash red and I'm unable to start a wash cycle. I checked the fuse and all is good. I'm trying to determine if I should just go ahead and call a repair service person. As I've tried all of the suggestions offered. Did you have to get a repair person to come out to resolve?

I repaired it myself. Your problem could be the control board or control panel. Mine turned out to be the control panel. I replaced the entire panel and it works like new. If you can determine what the problem is, you can save yourself a lot of money by doing the repair yourself. Either one is quite easy to replace. Good luck.

Default Lock On Blinking Light

Had the same problem, got it to work one time after turning the circuit breaker off for an extended period and then simultaneously resetting the C/B and having wife manipulate the controls. Finally gave up and called Sears repair. The model dishwasher had a recall due to malfunction of the control panel (that most likely is what needs to be replaced; however, there is a second electronic module in the machine.

The machine was out of warranty by over a year or more...it was in the house when we brought it. When I called Sears, they offered me a 1-year maintenance warranty for a little over $200. The Sears maintenance man would come to the house, isolate the repair and replace the part, if needed, for the price. I had already looked on the internet for a replacement control panel and it was going to cost more than that alone. I accepted and signed up. The Sears repair guy came and said it most likely was the control panel, but it could be the other electronic module, and there was no way to field test which one was faulty, so he would have to replace both! Unfortunately, he stocked neither part on the truck so he had to order them, they arrived at the house about 3-days later and he returned a week after the initial visit and installed both parts...all new electronics in the machines and it has been working like a champ since repair (3 months) and if I have a problem during the next 9 months I call and they repair it. Overall, it was the least expensive way to go, for me, and I abhor those maintenance warranty extension contract. I feel if they make it right, it should last without paying for a contract...but sometimes you just bite the bullets. Apparently there was a series of dishwasher control panels that were faulty in that the little cushion behind the control button screws-up and will not make the proper contact. That is why an "occasional" random attempt to reset and allow a cycle to start was successful.

Wish you well.
