Default Cleaning out soap buildup
Brand: Maytag
Model Number: MDB6000AWB
Age: More than 10 years

This dishwasher is about 11 years old and has been a good one. Its only problem is a buildup of soap from using cheap dishwashing soap. I would like to repair this dishwasher instead of replacing it at this time.

The spray arm retainer clip broke, which caused the upper arm to come off. I have removed the lower assembly with arm and filters as well. Everything has been soaking in vinegar for 3 days, and I have been cleaning, scraping and agitating it all. It is looking very clean. My question... what happens if I replace the retainer clip and then run the dishwasher with vinegar inside? Are there any other parts (like tubes, etc.) that I should clean out? Regarding the Pump Cover & Secondary Filter Assembly, is cleaning with vinegar enough - or should this be replaced? I don't want to put $40+ into this just to find out it won't work. Thank you.

Cleaning with vinegar should do the trick. There should be no need to replace the filter.

Running the dishwasher with vinegar in it is fine too.

Here is a link to your dishwasher model MDB6000AWB.
