Unhappy Clean light flashing for week, now won't start
Brand: Kenmore
Age: 1 - 4 years

We noticed the clean light always flashed for the last few weeks, now it won't start, tried to reset the CB but it does not help. TS book says problem with heating circuit. Has anyone come across this before. Service tech is 3 weeks out so I plan on trying to figure it out myself so any help is appreciated. It is only 2 years old, ultra wash, quiet guard II. I don't have the model handy but will add it later.

Does it flash 7 times then pauses and then flash 7 times again or is it constantly flashing?

Yes 7 then pause then 7. I read the book and after testing the door switches & the thermo fuse, I found the part about running the diagnotics which resets the heating circuit. After doing that it has ran twice without any problems. Hopefully it was just a glitch. Do you know more? It also said the thermister failing would cause it. Wonder how hard that is to get at?

If this unit is an 05 or later it has what's known as an OWI aka Optical Water Indicator. This sensor tells the control board the dirtyness of the water as well as the temperature. The OWI has both the water sensor and the thermistor on it. Thus one unit.
If the unit is running then don't do anything lol.
If you want to get to the OWI I would do the following:
1. Shut off the breaker to the unit and verify the unit does not come on or any lights work.
2. Remove the kick and toe panel from the bottom of the unit. A Phillips screwdriver will help you with this task.
3. After removing the kick and toe panel you'll have to reach under the sump on the right side. The OWI turns out as it is turned in and locked when installed.
4. Make sure the rast connector is securly fastened with the tab clicked over the rast connector.
5. If this is connected then reinstall the OWI and redo everything above so you get the unit back to its original state.
