Default Clean cycle failure
Brand: Whirlpool
Model Number: DP8500XXN2
Age: More than 10 years

The washer will fill with water and the clean cycle will run for about 10 seconds before turning off. I can let the washer sit for a few minutes and turn it back on and again it will run for about 10 seconds. I have removed the pump/motor and it checks out to be in good shape. I think the water inlet valve needs replacing being its clicking off and on real fast. That would not cause the clean cycle to fail would it? What could cause the problem im having.

Thanks
Mike

I thought it was the water inlet valve but it was the relay making all the noise. I guess This might be the problem. Would the relay be cause of the cycle not running but 10 seconds?

Thanks
Mike

The start relay on the frame, or the motor relay on the pc board?? Just what relay is chattering.

The relay was mounted to the frame and it was chattering like crazy. I bypassed the repay to see if it was the problem but the pump still shut off after about 10 seconds. The motor spins free yet its acting like its overloaded.

That's your motor start relay wired to supply starting current.
Your start winding is shorted period. You can use an amprobe to verify high current draw!!= new motor time.
