Default Chopper screen plugs up constantly
Brand: Kenmore
Age: 1 - 4 years

My Dishwasher is just days over 1 yr. old. It worked fine for the first 11 1/2 months, and then the water movement became very sluggish, and naturally the dishes weren't clean. I noticed the slow down over a few days. I thought about taking the bottom apart to look around, but was concerned that doing so would negate the warranty so I called a repairman. He found that the chopper screen had a small rock (origin is a complete mystery) and that the screen was plugged with food particles. After cleaning it out, the machine ran like normal. So, I thought that a very careful note of what goes in would solve everything. I have always cleaned off what food I can before I load the dishwasher anyway. Well after a few days, the water was sluggish again. This time I just took it apart myself, and sure enough, the chopper screen was plugged again. I noticed some odd unidentifed fibers about 1/2 in. long in the mix. After cleaning, the machine worked fine again. But after a few days, the scenario repeated it self, and has continued like a pattern for the last 3 weeks. The problem can't be as simple as needing to clean off more food before loading, because 1) I already have been doing that, and 2) there wasn't a problem with my system for 11 1/2 months. By the way, I also don't know of any dishes getting chipped while in the machine. What could possibly have changed to cause this problem?

Is the chopper ok. This item is supposed to shredd food particles before they clog the screen.
If ok, you might want to just take out the screen and avoid putting in chicken bones and other clogging type debre. Dishwasher should now run just fine.

Default Kenmore chopper screen

Mine plugs all the time - model number is 665.16602300. It is a pain to tear apart. I cannot tell if chopper is working or not. Seemed to be fine first couple of years we had it, careful to rinse dishes but now I don't get a month of use before the screen plugs up.

I have considered buying a new chopper screen and housing or just eliminating the chopper all together.

If I do that will the motor and pump start plugging up?

What is the best solution?
THanks

Default Chopper installation question

IS there a trick to installing that chopper screen? I'd love to know as many times as I have to tear it all apart to clean and reinstall.

thanks
