Default Check Ball Installation
Brand: Maytag
Model Number: MDB9100AWW
Age: 5 - 10 years

This dishwasher has stopped draining. Upon dissembling the pump while searching for blockages, I discovered that the check ball was missing. I also found a broken discharge housing assembly (#11) and several scraps of plastic wrap.

I have replaced the housing assembly and the dishwasher still does not drain.

I would appreciate instructions for installing the check ball.

Can someone describe the ball? The ball I obtained from the parts store is light blue and is about 3.7mm diameter. The ball was made by Whirlpool, Part No: 99002281, Description: "Ball-Chec". The parts store claims this is the correct repair part for my Maytag.

I don’t believe the plastic wrap I found would stop the machine from draining. Where should I look first for additional blockages?

Thanks for the assistance.

Smile Check Ball

Part #16, (filter support) has a tube that is the correct size for the check ball. The tube is capped by a port in part #15 (suction plate) that has an orifice in the center of a spherical seat where the ball can seal the orifice. I installed the ball in the tube in the filter support, reassembled the dishwasher and now it is working as good as new. It drains properly and the upper and lower spray arms are spraying water.

I hope this helps someone else.

I still wonder what happened to the original check ball.
