Default Cant get a wash cycle????
Brand: Hotpoint
Model Number: hda897g-01
Age: More than 10 years

1.5 years ago it was working ok and then went unused till now. Redoing kitchen so had to disconnect it from wiring and water/drain suppies and pull it out to install cabinets.

Put it back in place and intially could not get it to drain or wash when hooked up under sink. Now i can get it to drain --though not completely--when i empty the drain hose into a bucket instead of plumbing. So it appears motor is working ---i hear the "clunks" and hum when i work the timer

BUT now i cant get it to go into a wash cycle. It will fill though it doesnt seem to be with much pressure but absolutely no wash cycle, tower up, spinning arms???????--if water recirculates could there be a blockage in the drain side

I hear about filter and screen but dont know where they are if this is a possiblity. I have tried to take the sprayer arms off but can not get the tower unscrewed from the top of the arms if thats how the removal goes---its frozen ( wouldnt surprise me if i found glass/junk in filter or screen)

Any thought why I cant get a wash cycle despite tuning the timer a full 360??--like i said it worked a year and half ago before i removed it from plumbing and wireing

thanks for your help

Here is a link to your washer
GE HDA897G-01

In the Motor/Pump Mechanism diagram
Remove the inside tub cover of the sump and see/feel if there is any obstruction
Would also remove the kick plate, remove the sump plug Item 453 and clean it out.
Try to get as much water out of it before you do this because there will be water in it.
A turkey baster or some type of pump/siphon works good
Also on your tower support is a flapper valve Item 557 make sure this is OK if not replace it. It is amazing how much difference this small hole makes if the valve does not close during wash. They do not even list it here but it is a common part and you should be able to pick it up locally.

Remember to add a couple quarts of water to the unit before trying it, dishwashers do not like running dry
