Question Ball checks in kenmore dishwasher
Brand: Kenmore
Age: 5 - 10 years

Can anyone tell me if there is any special way the two ball checks (marbles) are supposed to be installed? Our dishwasher stopped cleaning the dishes. When I took it apart I found that the fabric screen above the pump had a hole in one section. Found lots of small items in the pump. Cleaned it out and put it back together but it still dosen't seem to pump up to the wash arms.
Any ideas?

Can you please supply your model number?

It is possible that there is damage to the impellers.

I am having a hard time finding the model #. Apparantly it is supposed to be on a tag on the tub wall rim but I can't find it anywhere. The best I could do is find a part number, which linked me to this #. GU980SCGB1. The part I need is listed as a FILTR-PUMP PS344234 and I found it on partselct part list. There is no obvious damage to the impeller. The pump emptys the water out fine when it pumps out. Just won't pump up the wash arms. It looks like most of the water comes out the hole in the filter screen, which I've ordered new. (Ran it with the door open and saw lots of water come out the hole, but none out the spray arm.

If you look at the diagram of the dishwasher you will see that there are two different impeller numbers ll and 24.

You would have to remove the impeller to see any damage to the blade.

Check to make sure that the gasket is in the outlet housing properly.

Here is a link to your dishwasher model GU980SCGB1.

Here is the pump impellers.

Thanks for the information, but my question is still how do the ball checks go in, and are there 2 or 3 of them.

In the model that you provided there are three balls.

There are two in the drain impeller cover and all you do is drop them in, they move with the water flow.

There is one in the filter housing.
