Default Arms don't spin; can't remove pin between arms
Brand: Whirlpool
Model Number: GU1200X TKQ0
Age: 1 - 4 years

After much research, I suspect the broken glass is stuck somewhere under the filter screen which is below the spin arms. I can get those off, and can remove three screws holding it down. I can't get any closer to the 'underneath'. There appears to be a piece of pump housing which hides a screw, I think. I can't get it off to get to the screen.

I've been to your parts site. I still can't see how to get the thing off. Can anybody help me?

Thanks.

EDIT: The arms DO have water spraying now. It's just not very strong. What else can I check?

There are two metal securing the feed tube to the dishwasher tub. Unsnap them.

Turn the feed tube a 1/4 turn counter clock wise.

The water tube and the spray arm can now be remove.

Here is a link to your dishwasher model GU1200X TKQ0.

Thanks. I got it out! YAAY!

Now, I can't remove the plastic protector housing underneath the screen, the one that directly covers the food chopper. I did see that between the two pieces (screen and accumulator) there's a lot of food and gunk. Onion skin, even! So I'm pretty sure I'm onto something with the glass or other things clogging the chopper mechanism.

Problem: We've removed all the protector screws, and tried prying up the protector every which way we can. We even found a video on another site with someone removing the very piece. He just reached in and grabbed it, but ours is stuck fast. We pushed what appeared to be a little latch button (plastic) on the right hand side, but no matter what, we can't lift the piece! We even made a little hook to place under it, but no luck.

Any suggestions? I've ordered a new protector, because I'll break it if I have to in order to remove it.

There is one screw in the inlet protector.

The inlet protector is number 8 on the pump and motor parts breakdown.

Is this the part that you are having trouble removing.

Thanks, yes, that was the part. With your help, I managed to dissassemble, clean out the clogged chopper assembly, and reassemble. The dishwasher works!

Apparently a broken piece of glass was lodged under the spinning part of the chopper blade, and it couldn't turn. There was a whole lot of food under there! Dishwasher works like a charm now. Thanks.

Sandy
