Default Replacing Coolent?
Brand: Frigidaire
Model Number: F44N18mgw0
Age: 5 - 10 years

The Fridge and Freezer are only mildly cool at best, and everything else is in great condition. How do I change the coolent? The sticker says it is R134A, 5.0 oz at 300 psi.

Hi,

If it is low on freon you will need to start by finding and repairing the leak first.

The fridge is 8 years old, is it possible the freon is justing running low as the unit has some cool air, but very little.

Sure it could just be low, but please understand that it does not use freon like a car uses gas.

If the unit is low it's because it leaked out someplace.
If the leak is not found and freon is added it will leak out again.

Here is a link that may help, has a fridge not cold enough section
refrigerator problems and solutions, not cold enough, frost free repair information

Poor cooling is not always caused by low freon usually it is dirty compressor area or defrost which causes this.

May I ask you a couple of questions, do you hear the fan running in the freezer, and also If you look insie the freezer on the bottom, at the back wall, do you see any frost? I can be reached at my website at ApplianceEducator.com Tom PS. Freon does not have to be changed out from time to time.
