Default "Kachunk?"
Brand: Other
Model Number: AW1291M
Age: 1 - 4 years

The air conditioner works fine for about 5 minutes and then gives out with a loud "KACHUNK" and then it switches to fan. What causes this? Is there anything I can do if I take the unit out of the chassis?

This sounds like an electrical problem that may be in the circuit board.

It is best to have a technician look at it.

I don't think you should take the whole thing out. Best to, like Sheila said, to let a professional look at it. Repair it is cheaper than replacing it.
