compressor comes on when unit is turned on but after a few minutes the compressor shuts off and it may restart or it may not. If you turn unit off and then turn it back on in a few minutes it will doo the same thing. no it isn't freezing up. changing thermostat doesn't make any difference. it seems it acts up more in the heat of the day than at night when it is cooler. My question is can the main pwb board be shorting out when hot? And do you know if GE has had a problem of this sort. I know the thermistor is working by puting it in cold water the resistance changes and changes when the temperature heats back up. I took out the board but didn't see any burnt spots.

There may be a crack in the board or a bad solder joint causing the compressor to cut in and out.

When the compressor cut out the next time tap on the board and see if it tries to cut in.

This will tell you if you have a bad board.
