Default Fan motor problem
Brand: Whirlpool
Model Number: ACQ102XP0
Age: 1 - 4 years

My window unit quit blowing air.Has power and the compressor comes on OK.I checked the voltage at the capacitor and have about 270 volts at startup on a 120 volt unit. This would seem Ok for a capacitor run motor. What else can I check or is there another test for the capacitor.
Thanks
Mike

I had that same problem and I had tested everything almost. It got to the point where I bought a new one.

Hi Mike: The motor has a run capacitor as well. But in my experience most fan motor failure is lack of lubrication on the fan motor bearing. The compressor runs but without the fan running the compressor motor will shut down. ( Klexon in the motor will shut the motor off ) Apply some 3 in one oil to the shaft and work it in by hand spinning the fan. You might check the fan for dirt in the squirel cage as well.

Have you checked the continuity in the motor it's self. I had one that did that a few years ago, and the blower motor had burned up.
