Default Compressor shuts off @ 77 but fan keeps running
Brand: Other
Model Number: 50RVR015LCC30130
Age: 5 - 10 years

Hello,

I live in a tiny apartment in downtown Boston. Each apartment in the building has an AC unit in the closet. If I set the thermostat at any temp. below 77 the compressor turns off when the temp reaches 77 but the fan continues to run and run until the temp returns to 78 or 79 and then the compressor kicks back on and so on and so on. However, if i set the thermostat to exactly 77 the compressor and fan turn on as usual and they BOTH turn off when the temp reaches 77. After the temp goes back up a few degrees the compressor and fan turn back on as usual and thus the lowest temp i can achieve in my apartment is 77 degrees. Does anyone have any experience with this sort of behavior? Any input is very much appreciated. Oh, and its a Carrier unit.

Thanks

P.S. Is it safe to run my unit like this until i get it repaired? 77 degrees sucks but it beats the hell out of opening the windows.

Is this an electronic thermostst or manual. Electronic thermostats have an "Overide" feature.
