Default Air Conditioner losing cooling power
Brand: White-Westinghouse
Model Number: WAC052K7A7
Age: 5 - 10 years

My window unit is not cooling the room as well as it used to. Everything seems to be working but when I open up the front I can tell that only the bottom copper coil (out of four) is cooling. The other coils remain at room temp. Is this just a matter of adding more coolant? If so, how do I do that? I appreciate any help you can give.
Thanks,
Fred

Browns Heating & Cooling is a great resource- they are located in Monmouth county and are a quick and affordable air conditioning repair in NJ.
I never like to tamper with ac units if I don't know exactly what the problem is.

In a window unit it may be as simple as the condenser coil could be dirty. They seem to work fine until the temp rises above 85 or 90 degrees. Then it can't cool the refrigerant well. With care you can take the unit out of the window and wash it off. The condenser coil is the out side coil and the debris will be on the sie you can not see from the outside of the unit. I recommend that you wash it with a garden hose and not take it to a car wash as they have way to much pressure and can bend the coils.

A good foaming cleaner (Dow Bathroom) will work wonders.
