Yeah, my Frididaire is the same way. It is an 18,000 BTU about 4 yers old. It started to intermit about a year ago. Now, it apears to be dead. When it worked and you plugged the unit in, you would hear a short, high-pitched sound. Then the unit would start up. Now, the sound doesn't happen when you plug it in. It is completely dead.
The 220v shows up on the input to the board. In other words, the line cord is good and there are no fuses or breakers. I suspect this air conditioner uses some type of overload cicuitry and the board that contains this circuitry is whacked!
I can't seem to locate replacement boards or I would buy them and replace them. I work on TV's and I am certainly not afraid to do such a job, and, Mike Music. I wouldn't work on it unless the unit was unplugged and the capacitor was discharged. However, a new 18,000 BTU frididaire is $349 at Lowes, so do I want to even bother trying to fix the old one?
Either way, I better decide quickly because I'm ...
Overheated
